A position for an Atmospheric Research Fellow is currently available at the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS), a prominent research institute affiliated with Nanyang Technological University.

EOS is dedicated to advancing knowledge in the fields of seismic activity, volcanic behavior, tsunami dynamics, and climate variability, particularly in Southeast Asia, to foster safer and more sustainable communities.

The institute operates a comprehensive network of geophysical monitoring stations in partnership with neighboring Southeast Asian nations, bolstered by the EOS Centre for Geohazard Observations and a Remote Sensing Laboratory (EOS-RS). EOS benefits from substantial computational resources and collaborates closely with the High-Performance Computing Centre of NTU. Furthermore, the institute is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for petrological and geochemical investigations, along with a Community Engagement office that provides various educational opportunities aimed at promoting a sustainable future.

The successful candidate will collaborate with Associate Professor Steve Yim to investigate the intricate relationships between climate, air quality, public health, and ecosystems. The research team is committed to refining multi-scale atmospheric models, employing measurement techniques to analyze climate and air quality interactions, and evaluating their effects on human health, mosquito populations, and soil conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting air pollutant sensitivity assessments within a chemical transport model
  • Creating a response surface model
  • Applying the model across various climate change scenarios
  • Interpreting model results for different air pollutants, taking into account meteorological and chemical factors
  • Compiling findings in reports and submitting them to esteemed international journals

Job Requirements:

  • A Ph.D. in atmospheric science, geography, meteorology, or environmental sciences
  • Proficiency in developing chemical transport models with an emphasis on sensitivity assessments
  • A proven publication record in relevant fields
