Highly skilled CNC machinists are responsible for operating computer-controlled machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. This role requires a high degree of skill and knowledge in programming, setup, and operation of CNC machines.
Job Responsibilities:
- Programs CNC machines by entering instructions and parameters, including zero and reference points, tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches.
- Sets up CNC machines by installing and adjusting chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers.
- Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
- Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces, adhering to international standards.
- Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting operations, taking measurements, detecting malfunctions, troubleshooting processes, adjusting and reprogramming controls, sharpening and replacing worn tools.
- Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
- Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs.
- Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a CNC machinist or in a related field.
- Strong understanding of CNC programming languages, including G-code and M-code.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
