Junior Penetration Tester Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Junior Penetration Tester to join our cybersecurity team. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying vulnerabilities in systems, networks, and applications by performing security assessments and penetration tests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough penetration tests on networks, applications, and systems to identify potential weaknesses and recommend remediation measures.
  • Work collaboratively with senior security professionals to complete penetration testing projects, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality standards.
  • Research and exploit vulnerabilities using various tools and techniques, staying up-to-date with the latest industry developments.
  • Document findings in detailed reports and present them to the internal team and stakeholders, providing actionable recommendations for improvement.
  • Collaborate with developers, system administrators, and other IT staff to implement security measures, promoting a culture of security awareness within the organization.
  • Stay informed about the latest cybersecurity trends, attack vectors, and security technologies, applying this knowledge to enhance the team's skills and capabilities.
  • Support the team in preparing for and responding to security incidents when necessary, demonstrating a proactive approach to risk management.
  • Follow established cybersecurity processes and frameworks (e.g., OWASP, NIST), adhering to industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in conducting security reviews and risk assessments for new and existing systems, providing expert advice on mitigation strategies.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts, operating systems (Windows, Linux), and web applications, with a solid foundation in computer systems and software development.
  • Basic knowledge of penetration testing techniques and tools (e.g., Nmap, Metasploit, Burp Suite, Wireshark), with a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Familiarity with common security frameworks and methodologies (e.g., OWASP Top 10, NIST), with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a logical approach to troubleshooting and a passion for finding innovative solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex technical concepts into clear, concise language.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CEH, CompTIA Security+, eJPT, OSCP) are a plus, demonstrating expertise in specific areas of cybersecurity.
  • Basic scripting skills (e.g., Python, Bash) and knowledge of automation tools for security testing, with a willingness to learn and apply new skills.
  • Understanding of cloud security concepts and testing, with a familiarity with cloud-based platforms and infrastructure.
  • Experience with cybersecurity regulations and compliance standards in Singapore (e.g., PDPA, MAS TRM), with a commitment to staying up-to-date with evolving regulatory requirements.
