Job Opportunity
- Job Responsibilities:
As a senior aquatic biologist, you will oversee the work of junior aquarists, ensuring that project deadlines are met and high standards of animal care are maintained. This involves supervising their work assignments, effectively managing resources, and providing guidance and mentorship.
You will be responsible for performing animal husbandry and completing underwater tasks for assigned animals to the highest standards. This includes reviewing and preparing daily diets and nutritional requirements for animals under care, coordinating animal medical procedures, and moving animals between locations.
In addition, you will supervise and maintain the cleanliness of habitats under care, perform general maintenance of habitats, repair tools and equipment, and conduct observation and data recording of animal behavior.
Furthermore, you will be responsible for performing daily siphoning of debris/waste and cleaning of acrylic panels in habitats, as well as coordinating with relevant stakeholders for new events, projects, and activities.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you will need a diploma or degree in marine science, aquaculture, biological or life sciences. You must also have scuba diving certification (Open Water Dive and above) and be physically fit to dive. Additionally, you should be confident working in an aquatic environment, possess good leadership, project management, and organizational skills, and be passionate about working with animals and environmental sustainability.
Able to perform shift work, including weekends and public holidays, is essential. Knowledge of animal management software is an advantage but not required.
