Database Administrator Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior PostgreSQL and Sybase Database Architect to lead our database infrastructure initiatives.

About the Role
  • This is a senior-level position that requires extensive experience in designing, implementing, and managing high-performance PostgreSQL and Sybase databases.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement secure and scalable HA/DR solutions using replication tools (e.g., Patroni, pgpool-II).
  • Perform performance tuning, index optimization, and advanced query analysis for optimal database efficiency.
  • Manage database maintenance, backups, log management, and disaster recovery strategies to ensure business continuity.
  • Collaborate with development, DevOps, and QA teams to support CI/CD pipelines and application releases.
  • Implement security best practices, including encryption and access controls to safeguard sensitive data.
  • Write automation scripts (e.g., Shell, Python) for routine DBA tasks to increase productivity.
  • Support job scheduling and custom monitoring tools for both database environments.
L2 Support and Incident Management
  • Act as L2 escalation point for database incidents and service requests to resolve issues promptly.
  • Lead incident resolution, root cause analysis, and post-mortem documentation to improve processes.
  • Ensure changes and patches are well-managed and aligned with IT standards to maintain consistency.
  • Participate in DR drills, infra maintenance windows, and compliance-related tasks to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, technical procedures, and knowledge base content to facilitate knowledge sharing.
Team Collaboration and Continuous Improvement
  • Coordinate with global teams across multiple time zones to foster collaboration.
  • Drive automation and process improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Share technical knowledge and mentor junior staff where applicable to promote growth.
