Project Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Engineer to join our interdisciplinary team at the SINGAPORE-MIT ALLIANCE FOR RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY CENTRE. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of novel nano-sensors and photonic instrumentation for real-time measurement of plant metabolites, enabling optimal crop production and rapid development of plants suitable for high-density farming.

Responsibilities

The Research Engineer will work independently with portable photonic instrumentation, such as Raman spectrometers or fluorescence spectrometers, and possess a strong understanding of optical concepts, including confocality and multivariate spectral data processing. Key responsibilities include learning nanoparticle characterization skills to screen and characterize potential nanosensor candidates for plant hormone detection, designing and producing nanosensors embedded within films/hydrogel matrix, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.

Requirements
  • Masters degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science
  • Experience in plant disease mitigation or related agricultural science areas
  • Experience with nanosensors and their applications
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary and multicultural scientific teams
  • Experience in a startup company or industrial experience in marketing or business development
  • Experience in Raman spectroscopy, Confocal fluorescence microscopy, portable Raman spectroscopy
  • Experience in MATLAB and spectral data processing using AI and machine learning algorithms
