Overview
The Medical Laboratory Technologist plays a pivotal role in the production and quality assurance process. Key responsibilities include performing product manufacturing and interpreting test results in accordance with laboratory protocols.
Main Responsibilities (80%):
- Receive and inspect cellular products, rejecting unsuitable items for further processing.
- Perform all procedures in compliance with established laboratory protocols.
- Report any unsatisfactory values to relevant personnel.
- Resolve customer queries efficiently.
- Document procedure deviations and adverse incidents for supervisor review.
- Interpret and record results of internal and external quality control processes, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Maintain laboratory instrumentation through simple preventative maintenance and troubleshooting techniques.
- Manage laboratory inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies need replenishment.
Compliance Requirements:
- Observe good laboratory practice as outlined by the International Laboratory Accreditation Program and applicable regulatory bodies.
- Adhere to safety protocols as specified in the Institutional and Departmental Safety Manual.
- Ensure IT security and data governance compliance.
- Prioritize professional development by participating in workshops, seminars, and in-service education classes.
Additional Responsibilities (20%):
- Provide backup support during emergencies such as power outages or system failures.
- Contribute to project teams as assigned.
- Assist with administrative tasks including filing, processing deliveries, and invoices.
- Evaluate new laboratory methodologies and instrumentation.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent.
- Strong laboratory skills and above-average dexterity.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Effective planning, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
