Job Description
Specialist Teacher
A specialist teacher complements the programme as an extension of the teaching team. The specialist teacher will work collaboratively with the class group of teachers and be accountable to the Core Teacher for all matters regarding the class. The specialist teacher's position is a unique role within the pre-school, exploring deep connections between the children's current inquiries and thinking.
The scope of the role includes:
- Working collaboratively with children, teachers, and the community of EtonHouse to develop a programme that supports and deepens the learning that is taking place through class-initiated inquiries.
- Working closely with the classroom teachers to connect with the class inquiries and be flexible and open to change and new ideas as they emerge in your work alongside the children.
- Creating a variety of opportunities for children to express themselves and make discoveries using the symbolic languages.
- Meeting with the class teachers, curriculum coordinator, and principal if needed to discuss ideas and connections to inquiry learning.
- Maintaining a high standard of teaching practice and professionalism.
- Undertaking continued professional development and sharing the scope of specialist areas with the pre-school community.
- Documenting children's learning, making connections to The ITL Framework, such as newsletters and community documentation panels.
- Supporting the coordination of related annual community events, such as Celebration of Learning, Magical Movement Day, and 100 Languages Exhibition.
- Attending staff meetings and professional development workshops.
- Managing and developing pre-school resources and materials for the pre-school programme.
Qualifications
- At least 2-5 years of relevant professional teaching experience in early childhood.
- A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood or Education or equivalent, obtained from a recognised University or College involving not less than 3 years of full-time study.
- Teachers' Certificates, Diplomas, or other Teacher Accreditation courses and certification are required if the applicant's degree is not in Education.
- IB PYP course and training are highly valued.
- Knowledge of or willingness to acquire knowledge of inquiry-based learning is required.
- Applicants must provide original copies of their Certificates and academic transcripts for authentication.
- International experience, especially in Asia, is highly regarded.
