Job Title: Commis Cook 1-2

Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Commis Cook to join our culinary team. The successful candidate will assist the Executive Chef in preparing ingredients for cooking, including portioning of food ingredients, chopping, and storing food before service.

  • The incumbent will weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes set by the Executive Chef using various kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • The incumbent will wash and peel fresh fruits and vegetables to prepare them for cooking or consumption.
  • The incumbent will prepare and cook food according to recipes.
  • The incumbent will serve food in proper portions onto dishes, plates, mugs, and bowls, ensuring proper plate appearance.
  • The incumbent will ensure proper portion, arrangement, and food garnish for service to guests.
  • The incumbent will ensure food storage and cooking areas are clean after each shift/service.
  • The incumbent will prepare all potentially hazardous foods at the correct temperature according to the HACCP guidelines.
  • The incumbent will follow appropriate personal hygiene procedures to ensure food served to guests is safe for consumption.
  • The incumbent will follow and ensure compliance with food safety and handling policies and procedures.
  • The incumbent will communicate any assistance needed during busy periods to the Chef to ensure optimum service to guests.
  • The incumbent will ensure the quality of the food items delivered by suppliers and notify reporting supervisor if a product does not meet specifications.
  • The incumbent will check and ensure the correctness of the temperature of appliances and food using thermostats and thermometers, including monitoring freezer systems, such as fans, drains, and doors, for proper operation, and report issues or problems to reporting supervisor.
  • The incumbent will maintain up-to-date knowledge of food safety policies within the kitchen areas.
  • The incumbent will be able to work under demanding and strenuous situations.
  • The incumbent will monitor the quantity of food that is prepared and the portions that are served in to control food waste and ensure that food wastage is controlled.
Required Skills and Qualifications:

To be considered for this role, you should have:

  • A professional qualification in a related field or capacity.
  • 1 to 2 years' experience, preferably in the hospitality or food & beverage industry.
  • Fresh grad are welcome to apply.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team in a fast-paced environment.
