Roles and Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced Optometrist to join our team as a Clinical Optometrist. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for assessing the visual functions of patients and providing high-quality eye care services.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in optometry, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Performing subjective refraction for patients with refractive error, including post-cataract operation;
  2. Measuring axial length (A scan) and corneal curvature (keratometry) of the eye for calculation of the suitable power for the intraocular lens to be used during cataract operation;
  3. Performing ultrasound scan (B scan) for patients with central opacity that disallow the ophthalmologists to view the fundus;
  4. Performing visual field assessment using the Humphrey Visual Field;
  5. Performing binocular vision (BV) assessment using the HESS chart and other BV tools;
  6. Performing anterior segment photography for anterior cases including lens opacity, pterygium, corneal opacity, etc.

Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining equipment in the department to ensure they are in working order and according to standards.

Management responsibilities include ensuring efficient operations of the clinic, leading frontline staff in achieving excellent service for all patients, identifying service discrepancies and working on process improvement, and designing and setting up new service initiatives and patient-centric work processes.

Operational responsibilities include preparing monthly rosters and planning leave arrangements for Optometrists, Imaging Specialists, Opticians, and Ophthalmic Technicians, ensuring that staff are appropriately deployed for investigation coverage, and supervising the training of new allied health staff and the development of staff with potential.

General responsibilities include participating in activities related to the smooth running of the department, attending continuing education/in-service on a regular basis to maintain competency, and performing other duties as requested by the Nursing Officer, Principal Optometrist, Senior Optometrist, and Ophthalmologists.
