Antarctic Fire Officer Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fire Prevention Officer Lieutenant to join our team in Antarctica.

This is a unique opportunity to work in one of the most extreme environments on Earth, contributing to the safety and well-being of our personnel and community.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough fire safety inspections and drills to ensure compliance with regulations and protocols.
  • Initiate and coordinate fire prevention and response training for designated personnel.
  • Supervise firefighters in the operation of fire fighting vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintain a safe workplace and prioritize safety above all else.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Four years of full-time firefighting experience, volunteer experience, or paid-on-call time, with at least two years in a Fire Inspector role.
  • IFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Fire Officer I, Instructor I, Firefighter II, Fire Inspector II, Airport Fire Fighter, and Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations Level certifications.
  • CPR Certification.
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) certifications, including ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Associate of Science degree in Fire Science.
  • EMT-B or Paramedic certification.
  • IFSAC, Pro-Board/DoD, or State Certified Driver Operator Pumper/Mobile Water Supply and ARFF certifications.
  • Previous USAP experience.
Physical and Mental Demands:
  • Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods.
  • Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica.
  • Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by the employer.
  • Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF.
  • Ability to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.
  • Ability to perform physical activities, including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold.
