Legal Research Specialist

Overview:

The Centre for Technology, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and the Law (TRAIL) seeks a highly motivated Legal Research Specialist to contribute to its cutting-edge research initiatives involving foundational Large Language Models (LLMs). As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in conducting research, collaborating with experts, and developing innovative solutions to address complex legal issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducting research for and collaborating on funded projects involving LLMs, including identifying, evaluating, and developing relevant technologies and resources.
  • Collecting, normalizing, and creating datasets, as well as training LLMs.
  • Analyzing and interpreting LLM results, evaluating model performance, and recommending methods for improvement.
  • Collaborating with legal and computing researchers on interdisciplinary projects.
Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you should have a strong academic background in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or Computational Linguistics. You should also possess excellent command of English, both written and spoken, with additional language proficiency being an asset. Familiarity with modern LLM architectures and experience handling large datasets are essential.

Benefits:

This is a one-year contract position, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability. You will receive a competitive remuneration package commensurate with your qualifications and experience. Additionally, you will be eligible to apply for TRAIL research and conference funding to support attendance at academic conferences and pursue independent research under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.
