Autism Communication Specialist

This role focuses on supporting primary and secondary students with autism who experience various challenges in social communication, language, and literacy. Your responsibilities will include:
Evaluation & Documentation
- Perform assessments and document findings related to language, literacy, and communication for students with autism within an educational setting to inform intervention strategies and exam accommodations.
- Engage in collaborative assessments with school teams to enhance curriculum and lesson planning.
Direct Support
- Design and implement individualized and small group interventions targeting language, communication, and literacy objectives.
- Refer students to external and alternative services as needed.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders through a consultation model.
Program Development
- Contribute to the development of curricula and programs.
- For Senior roles, lead the creation of school-wide intervention initiatives focused on communication and language.
Training & Mentorship
- Offer training and guidance to educators on evidence-based practices, tools, and strategies to assist students in language and functional communication.
- Conduct workshops for parents and teachers addressing language and social communication issues.
- For Senior roles, provide supervision and mentorship to junior therapists.
Management & Leadership (Senior Roles)
- Deliver regular reports on established Key Goals for Speech and Language Therapy services.
- Shape the development of programs and policies to enhance best practices in communication, language, and literacy advancement.
Qualifications
- Full registration with the Allied Health Professional Council (AHPC).
- A commitment to understanding autism and a passion for serving the autism community.
- Adaptability and openness to diverse perspectives and changes.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
