Medical Laboratory Specialist

The primary responsibility of a Medical Laboratory Technologist is to analyze patient specimens for diagnostic, preventive, and prognostic purposes. This involves the examination of blood, urine, and other bodily fluids to determine the presence or absence of disease.
The Medical Laboratory Technologist plays a crucial role in supporting pathologists, senior medical laboratory scientists, and junior medical laboratory technologists in the total test process. This includes pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
The Medical Laboratory Technologist performs various tasks including:
- Verifying and validating testing of specimens from patients.
- Performing calibration, validation, and preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment.
- Ensuring quality control of laboratory analyzers, including point-of-care testing devices.
- Maintaining inventory according to lean management practices.
- Obtaining relevant information from medical history to interpret current test results.
Required Skills and Qualifications
To excel in this role, candidates must possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in biomedical science or equivalent.
- Relevant experience and competency, especially in clinical laboratories.
- Minimum two years of working experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
- ASCPi certificate is preferred but not mandatory.
