Space Systems Engineer Position

This position is part of the Space Team, led by Dr. Jan Smisek.

The Space Systems Engineer at Transcelestial is responsible for systems development for a novel, miniature space-based laser communication terminal.

  • Design and validate mechanical and thermal subsystems, including CAD modeling, vibration analysis, and thermal simulations for space and optical payloads.
  • Lead systems engineering activities for space-based laser communication terminals, including requirements definition, interface control, and performance analysis (pointing error budgets, power, communications link budgets, mass, and thermal margins).
  • Participate in and manage Assembly, Integration, and Test (AIT) procedures, ensuring successful environmental qualification and payload integration into client satellite buses.
  • Perform mission and orbital analysis to inform design decisions and coordinate terminal operations with Transcelestial Mission Operations & Ground Segment (TMOGS) teams.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Degree in Aerospace, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • 2+ years of systems engineer experience, preferably in aerospace or satellite missions
  • Proven ability to work autonomously while collaborating in international, multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong technical communication, documentation, and time management skills
  • Extensive knowledge of spacecraft subsystems and ability to translate requirements into engineering solutions
  • Hands-on experience in mechanical design, vibration analysis, and thermal simulations for aerospace systems
