Special Education Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Special Education Assistant. In this role, you will contribute to the quality learning experiences of our students with multiple disabilities and autism spectrum disorder.

As a Special Education Assistant, your primary responsibility will be to work under the guidance of trained educators to deliver lessons using evidence-based pedagogy and meaningful activities.

Key aspects of your role include:

  • Providing curriculum and instructional excellence by working with teachers to plan lessons, design activities, and prepare lesson resources.

You will also be responsible for implementing appropriate modes of assessment to evaluate student needs and develop individualised learning objectives and outcomes.

Additionally, you will assist teachers in data collection to understand student profiles and monitor student progress.

Other responsibilities include building strong relationships with students, demonstrating care and concern, and implementing positive classroom routines and practices that support student learning and engagement.

Collaboration is key in this role, as you will work in partnership with allied professionals and stakeholders to support student learning and development.

You will also be responsible for maintaining inventories of equipment, materials, and supplies, managing administrative tasks, and mentoring volunteers and interns.

To succeed in this role, you should have a good Diploma or Degree in a related field, with a strong interest in the special needs community. You must also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
