Hairstylist Job Description

The primary role of a hairstylist is to provide professional hairdressing services to clients, ensuring they leave the salon feeling satisfied with their appearance.

This involves conferring with clients to understand their needs, preferences, and specifications. Based on this information, hairstylists advise clients on suitable haircuts, hairstyles, and hair color that complement their physical features and hair type.

Key tasks include cutting, trimming, and shaping clients' hair as well as wigs, hair extensions, hairpieces, and toupees according to client specifications. Additionally, hairstylists shampoo, condition, and dry clients' hair, using various tools and equipment to style their hair as desired.

A key aspect of the job is maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, including cleaning and sterilizing all hairdressing tools and instruments to meet state health and safety regulations.

Effective communication skills are essential for building strong relationships with clients and understanding their requirements. Strong organizational and time management skills also enable hairstylists to manage multiple clients and prioritize tasks efficiently.

  • To be successful in this role, you should be able to stand for extended periods and work under pressure. You must also be patient, detail-oriented, and willing to adapt to changing situations.
