Avian Breeding and Research Lead

This role involves overseeing daily operations at the avian breeding and research centre, ensuring successful bird species breeding and developing a young and enthusiastic team.
Key Responsibilities:- Implement bird breeding plans in line with collection priorities and consider the needs of Bird Paradise and threatened species.
- Ensure birds' health, welfare, and proper care by reviewing animal care protocols, monitoring behavior and health, and coordinating veterinary care.
- Maintain facility and animal habitats to meet high standards.
- Develop a young team through supervision, mentoring, and training.
- Conduct or assist in research for the avian breeding and research centre.
- Bachelor's degree in zoology or related life science discipline.
- Significant experience working as an aviculturist in a zoological or conservation-breeding facility.
- Experience with environmental and behavioral requirements of birds.
- Good understanding of animal welfare principles.
- Experience in bird reproduction, mating opportunities, and health checks.
- Knowledge of hand-rearing techniques and natural incubation protocols.
- Leadership skills and staff training experience.
- Proficiency in using computers and basic software packages, including ZIMS software.
