**Embalmer Role Description**

The embalmer plays a critical role in preparing deceased bodies for burial or cremation through embalming, restorative procedures, and cosmetic applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform restorative art, apply makeup, and style the body for viewing purposes
  • Maintain accurate reports and adhere to applicable laws and regulations related to facility cleanliness
  • Collaborate with Funeral Directors as required and assist in funeral services

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Associate's degree or certificate in mortuary science
  • Licensed embalmer in the state of employment
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity
  • Ability to handle emotionally challenging situations
  • Knowledge of human anatomy, chemistry, and sanitation principles

Working Conditions:

  • May involve exposure to hazardous materials and biological substances
  • On-call duties during evenings, weekends, or holidays may be required
  • Lifting of bodies weighing over 100 lbs is a potential requirement
  • Primary work location will be in funeral homes, mortuaries, or medical examiner facilities
