Logistics Sourcing Manager

SUMMARY OF ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position demands a comprehensive understanding and extensive experience in the strategic procurement of logistics services, including transportation, warehousing, brokerage, crating, and packaging. The role encompasses supply chain management, third-party logistics, warehousing best practices, transportation oversight, contract management, reverse logistics, service parts logistics, and maintaining key supplier relationships.

This position reports directly to the Senior Manager of Global Logistics & Packaging Commodity Business Management and is accountable for:

Overall Responsibilities

  • Facilitating collaboration across business units
  • Staying informed on industry trends
  • Formulating and executing commodity and supplier strategies
  • Managing the sourcing process and contract administration
  • Overseeing supplier relationships

Sourcing Responsibilities

  • Complying with the Logistics Sourcing Policy
  • Overseeing the Sourcing Board Commitment Authority Process
  • Planning and executing RFx processes
  • Leading sourcing event teams
  • Ensuring precise documentation and communication of business requirements to suppliers
  • Conducting supplier capability assessments and negotiations
  • Managing contracts and optimizing rates
  • Executing tactical procurement (spot buys)
  • Supporting global rate structures and bid analytics
  • Managing programs to identify and onboard best-in-class suppliers to meet strategic goals

Supplier Management Responsibilities

  • Standardizing the measurement of service level agreements (SLAs) from contracts
  • Defining a uniform global supplier performance reporting standard
  • Conducting supplier management cadence meetings
  • Monitoring performance management
  • Identifying performance deficiencies
  • Addressing non-conformance in execution
  • Collaborating internally and externally to enhance performance trends and drive continuous improvement with suppliers

Success in this role necessitates the ability to effectively collaborate and lead within a matrixed, multi-site, global, cross-functional team comprising representatives from operations, engineering, manufacturing, legal, finance, and other internal departments, as well as all levels and functions within the commodity supply base.

Key qualifications for success in this role include in-depth commodity knowledge of both international and domestic transportation (heavyweight air, ocean, parcel ground/air, and trucking), warehousing, crating, packaging, and other logistics activities essential for supporting a world-class global supply chain. This role requires research, analysis, and a thorough understanding of supply market drivers for each of the aforementioned commodities. Additionally, it is crucial to assess and anticipate sources of supply and capacity risks before they materialize and to prepare recommendations to mitigate such risks.

The position mandates a strong understanding of Applied Materials' global Standards of Business Conduct and compliance with these standards, demonstrating the highest level of ethical conduct in alignment with Applied Materials' core values.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

  • A minimum of 5-8 years of progressive experience in evaluating and managing suppliers with significant supply chain industry experience, either through operational roles, consulting, or sourcing.
  • Proven ability to deliver results within a global organization, with a comprehensive understanding of domestic and international supply chains for transportation, warehousing, and crating/packaging operations.
  • Experience with Lean and Six Sigma methodologies is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Coupa sourcing optimization tools (or similar software) is preferred.

Knowledge

  • General knowledge of supply chain management, commodity management, procurement, materials management, contracting, manufacturing processes, business/finance, and an understanding of commodity strategies.
  • Specific knowledge of international and domestic transportation (heavyweight air, ocean, parcel ground/air, and trucking), warehousing, crating, packaging, and other logistics activities necessary for supporting a world-class global supply chain.

Skills

  • Strong commercial negotiation, project management, and leadership skills, with demonstrated expertise in problem-solving, change management, stakeholder management, and time management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (both written and verbal), and organizational skills, with the ability to analyze complex situations swiftly.
  • Proven financial and business acumen are essential to ensure the Global Logistics organization remains a market leader by staying informed of industry trends through participation in relevant associations.
  • High proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, etc.) is required.
  • Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required. If based in Asia, fluency in Mandarin is also required.

Education

  • A BA/BS in business, engineering, logistics, supply chain, or a related field is required.
  • An MBA is preferred.
  • Certification by NAPM and/or APICS is preferred.

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally is required.
