We are seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer to serve as the Owner's Representative during the construction of a new heavy-lift vessel. This role is responsible for supervising and managing all hull construction activities, ensuring strict compliance with contractual requirements, approved drawings, classification society rules, and international marine standards.
You will act as the key technical liaison between the shipyard, internal project teams, and class surveyors, safeguarding the Owner's interests throughout the project lifecycle.
Main Responsibilities- Serve as the Owner's primary technical contact for all hull construction activities at the shipyard.
- Supervise shipyard operations involving steel cutting, plate preparation, block fabrication, welding, erection, and hull outfitting.
- Ensure shipyard work complies with approved designs, technical specifications, contractual requirements, and recognized industry standards.
- Conduct detailed inspections of hull fabrication, including fit-up, welding sequences, dimensional control, and surface treatment.
- Monitor complex welding work on thick plates and critical structural components related to heavy-lift foundations.
- Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related structural discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of shipbuilding experience, with a strong focus on hull construction; experience with heavy-lift or offshore construction vessels is highly preferred.
- At least 3 years in a supervisory role such as Owner's Representative, Superintendent, or Project Engineer for newbuild or major ship conversions.
- Solid understanding of steel fabrication, welding procedures, marine coatings, and non-destructive testing (NDT).
- Hands-on experience with hull block construction, heavy-lift foundations, and related structural fatigue and dynamic load requirements.
- Deep familiarity with SOLAS, IMO regulations, and major class rules (e.g., DNV, ABS, LR, ClassNK).
- Analytical, detail-oriented, and capable of making independent, sound engineering judgments in a fast-paced shipyard environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships across multicultural teams and technical disciplines.
