Barge Operations Manager

This is a leadership role that requires the successful candidate to oversee all aspects of barge operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Key Responsibilities include:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure familiarity with Barge Jacking O&M procedures and their application
  • Coordinate supervision and execution of maintenance activities on a day-to-day basis
  • Plan for safety, environmental, and quality control measures in relation to operation and maintenance of the barge
  • Maintain compliance with Safety and Environmental responsibilities
  • Familiarize yourself with operating communication, electrical, and mechanical systems onboard the barge
  • Promote MCD positive safety culture among workforce operations on the barge
  • Coordinate with Managers and Superintendents on works, scheduling, and status of the barge regarding its assignment
  • Responsible for safe and defined jacking of the barge structure as per O&M Manual
  • Maintain upkeep of maintenance and equipment service activities on a day-to-day basis as required and as per O&M Manual as instructed by Senior Barge Operator
  • Promote total job safety and environmental awareness among workforce, subcontractors, and all persons working on the barge
  • Identify hazards, assess risks, and implement control measures in consultation with fellow Barge Operators and Project Engineers
  • Monitor and review performance and reliability of all equipment/tools onboard the barge to ensure consistent smooth operation and availability of the barge
  • Advise National Plant Manager of any issues impacting reliability of the barge and maintain accurate records of such issues
  • Understand and manage contents of the barge Operations and Maintenance Manual, suggesting upgrades and amendments as necessary
  • Execute maintenance activities according to servicing schedules, ensuring availability of the barge when required
  • Induct and familiarize workforce on the barge with operational and safety procedures when jacking
  • Draft and maintain approved emergency and evacuation plans for the Barge and its crew
  • Assess and allocate maintenance priorities as needed
  • Maintain equipment and JUB operation logbooks
  • Maintain contact and communication with Project Engineer and National Plant Manager and Engineering Support
  • Prepare Equipment Inspection Schedules
  • Prepare Equipment Services Schedules
Requirements

You will have a minimum of five years experience relevant to the operation and upkeep of JUB's and having previously held a position of Barge Master.

  • You will hold trades qualification relevant to the operation and maintenance of the barge systems.
  • IJUBOA accreditation is desirable.
  • You will have recent JUB operational knowledge and competency.
  • You will be able to work on alternate Saturdays.
