Role Overview

We are seeking a Subject Matter Expert in Generator Systems to join our team. Our data centers serve as the foundation for our software operations, meeting customer demands.

The Generator SME will be responsible for emergency and back-up generator system operations and maintenance expertise, including fire alarm safety systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in all aspects of generator theory, operations, and maintenance, with a working knowledge of electrical distribution and general mechanical systems.

The candidate will also need to be knowledgeable in Fire Detection and Alarm Systems and Fire Protection Systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical/consultative resource for Emergency Generators and supporting equipment, Fire Detection and Alarm System, and the Fire Protection System, with an emphasis on practical/field application
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain generators, all associated fuel systems, Fire Detection and Alarm System, and Fire Protection System
  • Assist in authoring processes and procedures
  • Analyze data, develop metrics, and identify trends related to generator reliability. Contribute to generator maintenance and repair strategy
  • Assist with regulatory compliance and reporting related to air quality and emissions
  • On-site lead for root cause analysis activities in area of expertise
  • Provide training to critical facility engineers on generators and supporting equipment, Fire Detection and Alarm System, and Fire Protection System
  • Manage generator vendor relationships, scheduling, and work scope
  • Supervise and validate generator vendor-performed activities (startup, commissioning, maintenance, etc.)
  • Ensure appropriate cross-functional collaboration between local SME and EHS teams
  • Other duties as required to support the operation of Meta data centers
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent Bachelor's degree or trade certification in a related field plus 3+ years relevant industry experience
  • 6+ years of experience as a trade or manufacturer generator technician, or 6+ years of generator experience in critical operations
  • Knowledge of applicable local regulations pertaining to Fuel Storage, Fire Detection and Alarm Systems, and Fire Protection systems
  • Knowledge of power generation and transfer systems
  • Knowledge of diesel fuel system components, fuel storage, and fuel quality management
  • Experience working in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment
  • Experience in comprehending plans, specifications, and equipment shop drawings
  • Experience interpreting blueprints/CAD drawings
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a data center or other critical environment (pharma, clean room, medical, power production, etc.)
  • Experience with PLC control systems
  • Experience with the operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of larger capacity Generators and Generator control systems
