Surgical Veterinary Care Specialist

Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Surgical Veterinary Care Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our veterinary department, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the overall success of our organization.

The Surgical Veterinary Intern will assist in various aspects of patient care, including handling, sample collection, and surgery setup. This involves working closely with senior staff and specialist surgeons to ensure high-quality patient care and adhere to established protocols.

  • Assist with patient handling and sample collection/analysis, ensuring accurate and efficient data recording.
  • Participate in daily in-patient rounds and Morbidity and Mortality rounds when required, contributing to the overall quality of patient care.
  • Coordinate the surgical caseload, admitting and discharging patients in a timely and organized manner.
  • Assist in surgeries and anaesthesia induction and monitoring, maintaining a calm and professional demeanor under pressure.
  • Perform administrative tasks related to patient care, utilizing computer systems and software efficiently.
  • Provide emergency out-of-hours service as per the agreed-upon schedule, prioritizing patient needs and responding promptly.
  • Communicate effectively with referring veterinarians regarding patient updates, ensuring seamless collaboration and communication.
  • Maintain accurate client/patient/surgical/medical records, adhering to established standards and guidelines.
  • Attend relevant CPD and training opportunities, staying up-to-date with industry developments and best practices.
  • Read, acknowledge, and act upon internal communication and information, demonstrating proactive problem-solving skills.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ultrasound: Proficient in operating ultrasound equipment and interpreting results.
  • Animal Welfare: Demonstrates a commitment to animal well-being and advocates for their welfare at all times.
  • Independence: Capable of working independently and making sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Coping with Stress: Effectively manages stress and maintains composure under pressure, prioritizing patient safety and well-being.
  • Treatment and Medicine: Knowledgeable about treatment options and medications, applying this knowledge to provide optimal patient care.
  • Surgery and Enforcement: Assists in surgeries and enforces established protocols and procedures to ensure high-quality outcomes.
  • Sanitation and Digital Radiography: Maintains a clean and safe work environment, using digital radiography equipment efficiently.
  • Veterinary Medicine and Anaesthesia: Understands principles of veterinary medicine and anaesthesia, applying this knowledge to support surgical teams.
  • Laboratory Work and Team Player: Collaborates with laboratory staff and demonstrates proficiency in laboratory procedures, promoting a positive team dynamic.
