Job Description:

Molecular diagnostics is an exciting field where technology meets science. As a medical laboratory specialist, you will be responsible for performing high-complexity testing according to established standard operating procedures (SOPs) for molecular diagnostic techniques, including nucleic acid extraction, PCR, genotyping, and next-generation sequencing.

You will receive, process, and ensure proper identification of specimens and maintain the chain of custody. You will also troubleshoot and resolve technical problems as needed.

Additionally, you will participate in technical and clinical verification and validation studies. This may include internal and external quality assurance programs.

Monitoring inventory and lab supplies in assigned areas is another important aspect of this role. Maintaining strict quality standards according to laboratory accreditation and licensing requirements is crucial.

As a medical laboratory specialist, you will perform, record, and interpret results of quality control procedures and take corrective action when necessary.

Other duties may be assigned to ensure smooth laboratory operations.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in biomedical science, life sciences, or its equivalent is required.
  • Familiarity with molecular diagnostics techniques, including handling patient samples, nucleic acid extraction, real-time PCR, genotyping, and sequencing, would be an advantage.
  • Willingness to undergo training, including MT(ASCP) certification and California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license exam.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for collaboration with colleagues.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to stay focused executing complex laboratory protocols.
Benefits:

This is a full-time role with a minimum commitment of 3 years. The potential for deployment overseas for a 1.5-year period upon completion of training exists.
