Job Purpose

The role of the Assistant Engineer encompasses overseeing a team of Technical Officers to execute Preventive Maintenance (PM), Corrective Maintenance (CM), Overhaul (OH), and Engineering Support (ES) on all SMRT Thomson-East Coast Line (STEL) Trains, as well as Depot and Workshop equipment. This is essential to ensure a safe, dependable, and comfortable travel experience for our passengers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Align with and uphold SMRT's Vision, Mission, Service Standards, and Core Values.
  • Cultivate a thorough understanding of the necessary knowledge and skills for all maintenance tasks, while facilitating staff training.
  • Lead and guide a team of Technical Officers in executing preventive, corrective, overhaul, troubleshooting, engineering analysis, investigations, or any assigned maintenance tasks on all rolling stock, depot, and workshop equipment.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating staff deployment and shift schedules to optimize resource utilization.
  • Verify that all tasks performed by the team comply with the latest Work Instructions, Quality, Maintenance, Operational, and Safety Procedures, ensuring safety for oneself and colleagues at all times.
  • Ensure that spare parts, tools, and equipment utilized are in optimal condition and calibrated as necessary.
  • Conduct train shunting operations and manage depot equipment, maintenance vehicles, and tools to support the maintenance activities of the group.
  • Ensure that work records maintained by the team are updated accurately and promptly in the Work Records Form and on the Maintenance Management System.
  • Report any irregularities or practices that deviate from Work Instructions, Quality, Maintenance, Operational, and Safety Procedures immediately.
  • Implement KAIZEN methodologies (5M, 5S & 5W) to eliminate waste and enhance productivity and value in the work performed.
  • Provide assistance to staff, contractors, or any personnel required to perform work on depot and rolling stock.
  • Support the team during incidents, accidents, and emergencies.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards within all work areas.
  • Uphold a high level of work discipline and standards.
  • Undertake any additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Technology/Engineering from a recognized institution.
