Music Educator Job Description


The role of the Music Educator is to deliver high-quality music education to students, promoting their musical growth and development. This position requires a passion for music, excellent teaching skills, and the ability to work effectively with students of varying ages and abilities.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement engaging music curricula that cater to diverse learning needs and styles.

  2. Instruct students in vocal and instrumental music, music theory, history, and appreciation, incorporating various genres and cultural traditions into lessons.

  3. Prepare students for school events, such as assemblies, concerts, and interschool competitions, showcasing their musical talents.

  4. Maintain a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment, using effective behavior management strategies to ensure discipline.

  5. Evaluate student progress through formal and informal assessments, providing timely and constructive feedback, and maintaining records aligned with assessment policies.

  6. Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects and whole-school initiatives, fostering a spirit of teamwork and cooperation.

  7. Support the planning and execution of school-wide events, contributing to the broader educational experience.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Music, along with valid teaching certification from a recognized institution or authority.

  • Proven track record of responsibility in professional settings and interactions with students.

  • Understanding of Duty of Care principles, ensuring the well-being and safety of students.

  • 2-5 years of experience in teaching Music as a subject, with a strong commitment to ongoing professional development.

  • Understand and adhere to mandatory reporting laws, ensuring prompt and proper reporting of concerns about student safety or well-being.

  • Regularly update knowledge on child protection policies and practices.

  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information related to students, unless disclosure is necessary for their safety or as required by law.
