Job Description for Senior Geologist

The senior geologist is responsible for leading geological investigations and providing expert advice on geological matters related to construction projects.

  • Assist the project manager in monitoring the day-to-day works of consultants and contractors.
  • Study the general suitability of proposed sites from a geological and geomorphological perspective.
  • Review and report on surface/underground works, roads, bridge sites, etc., proposed by consultants or planned by the company.
  • Determine ground hazards and conduct risk assessments for possible landslides, and assist in studies involving general terrain and geological mapping (of surface and subsurface as required).
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret project-related geological data.
  • Use and analyze site information (such as radar images, aerial photographs, reports, and geological maps) related to site investigations works submitted by consultants.
  • Review field work/site investigations proposed by consultants and make recommendations wherever required.
  • Prepare geological reports as per requirement for different projects owned by the company.
  • Advise on quality and suitability of construction materials (soil or rock) and use of construction materials.
  • Ensure that projects meet budgets and timescales.
  • Liaise with construction engineers and geotechnical engineers from consultants/contractors to ensure designed quality of work/investigation.
  • Inspect site investigation works carried out by consultants and contractors.
  • Ensure safe, practical, and economic design is being prepared and proposed by consultants.
  • Quality assurance of underground/surface works.
  • Geological mapping in tunnel/project sites, including logging of tunnels.
  • Supervise tunnel construction, including excavation, drilling, blasting, mucking, and support works.
  • Supervise and monitor underground/surface construction work as per drawing, BOQ, and specification.
  • Assist project manager/contract unit to prepare tender/contract documents and their evaluation for procurement of mechanical works, goods, and services.
  • Support project manager/contract unit to analyze claims, variations, extension of time, etc.
