Senior Vacuum Systems Specialist Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled professional to assemble, test, and commission complex vacuum systems used in the deposition of high-performance materials.

About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and contribute to the development of custom-designed equipment. As a Field Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for hands-on hardware integration, supporting process engineers with system optimization and reliability improvement, and ensuring each system meets performance standards and customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • System Integration: Assemble and integrate vacuum CVD equipment based on mechanical drawings and system schematics.
  • Troubleshooting: Perform system-level troubleshooting during bring-up and field deployment.
  • Process Support: Support thin film process engineers in achieving uniform, high-quality deposition of materials.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct vacuum leak checks, sensor calibration, and process gas safety verifications.
  • Documentation: Maintain documentation of build procedures, BOM's, and test results.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with R&D and engineering teams to iterate on mechanical design and system improvements.
  • Field Support: Provide on-site support for equipment installation and preventive maintenance when needed.
  • Design Support: Assist in fixture/jig design and validation using CAD tools where applicable.
About You:

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual who can interpret mechanical and electrical schematics and perform basic troubleshooting. A bachelor's degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field is required, along with 3 years of hands-on experience in assembling and commissioning vacuum process equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced Degree: Master's degree in Engineering or relevant discipline.
  • Industry Experience: Experience in the semiconductor equipment industry, particularly related to wafer-scale thin film deposition or metrology.
  • CAD Proficiency: Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
  • Startup Experience: Experience working in a startup or fast-paced R&D environment.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong problem-solving and communication skills; ability to work independently and collaborate across disciplines.
  • Familiarity with Safety Regulations: Familiarity with thin film deposition processes in a high-vacuum or ultra-high-vacuum environment and safety regulations on industrial requirements for both equipment and infrastructure.
