Position Overview

The Legal Counsel will be an integral member of the Legal Department within Thales' international division, providing essential support to all Thales operations across Southeast Asia and Taiwan, particularly focusing on the Mobile and Connectivity Solutions sector.

Location
The position is based in Singapore, with occasional travel to regional offices as required.

Operational Context

Thales has established a strong presence in the Asian market for over five decades, delivering advanced solutions across various sectors including avionics, secure communications, defense systems, and digital security.

The role involves close collaboration with senior management and various stakeholders, including Country Directors and Business Line Managers, to navigate a rapidly evolving business landscape characterized by intense competition and diverse customer needs.

Main Responsibilities

The Legal Counsel will primarily focus on:

  • Supporting bids and project teams in relation to commercial contracts and contract management.
  • Ensuring compliance with governance policies and procedures.

Key Duties Include:

  • Drafting, negotiating, and managing a variety of commercial agreements, including sales and licensing agreements, master service agreements, and statements of work.
  • Providing expert legal advice on commercial matters, identifying and analyzing legal issues, and drafting essential documents.
  • Collaborating with operational and technical teams to develop effective legal and contractual solutions.
  • Preparing documentation for bids and projects in accordance with established approval processes.
  • Offering regional legal insights to business stakeholders.
  • Assisting the Procurement team in negotiations with suppliers to ensure compliance with contractual terms.
  • Managing disputes and claims in conjunction with local law firms and the Corporate Dispute Resolution team.
  • Advising operational teams on contractual rights and obligations.

Compliance & Governance

The Legal Counsel will play a pivotal role in implementing Thales Group's Ethics & Compliance standards, contributing to the evolution of organizational practices in response to new regulations and ethical considerations.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Conducting due diligence on third parties to ensure compliance with integrity assessments.
  • Participating in the deployment of anti-corruption and compliance training initiatives.
  • Assisting in the implementation of compliance programs across various legal frameworks.
  • Reporting non-compliance situations to the Compliance Officer and assisting in corrective action planning.

Reporting Structure

The Legal Counsel will report directly to the Legal & Contract Director/Compliance Officer for Southeast Asia & Taiwan and will be part of the broader Thales international legal team.

Qualifications & Skills

  • A Master's degree in Law.
  • Over 10 years of experience as an in-house lawyer, with expertise in Commercial and Corporate law within an international context.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is essential.
  • Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive and organized approach.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in diverse teams.
  • Commitment to the highest standards of professional ethics and integrity.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced commercial environment.
  • Proficient in standard software tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
