The Role: Associate Director - Oil Markets and Downstream - Asia/Middle East

Responsibilities: You will be part of the Refining and Marketing - Asia and the Middle East Downstream team and you will undertake key responsibilities such as:
  • Lead the short-term supply/demand/pricing of refined products by analyzing downstream market developments, through modeling and non-quantitative drivers. Key themes such as macroeconomic developments, energy transition, penetration of alternative fuels, refinery investments, and refinery outages and rationalization are embedded in these forecasts. In addition, one will also lead the forecast for long-term pricing of refined products that is consistent with the global/regional balance outlook.
  • Support subscription services by producing deadline-driven, quick-turnaround analysis, and research on the Asia and Middle Eastern downstream markets and the companies operating within them.
  • Become the thought leader in Asia and the Middle East oil markets and the "go-to" expert for client interactions.
  • Create a motivated and inspiring team environment with an open communication culture enabling the timely delivery of high-quality research services that are valuable for clients' decision-making.
  • Generate original research ideas and carry out topical research and deliver through written reports, presentations at company and industry events, and one-on-one sessions with clients to help them understand policies, anticipate critical trends, examine the competitive landscape, and identify opportunities along the value chain.
  • As a core member of the broader OMD research team, work collaboratively with colleagues in various international offices and actively participate in setting the research agenda in Asia and the Middle East and globally, drawing upon your own experience along with regular client and colleague interactions.
  • Work closely with Commercial colleagues to help/support generate business opportunities, particularly with companies in Asia and the Middle East, for S&P Global Commodity Insights OMD products and services.
What We're Looking For: A highly motivated and personable individual who is a dynamic, articulate, well-rounded, critical thinker with resourcefulness and qualitative skills that will allow them to execute effectively on tasks with autonomy. The key qualifications and skills required:
  • Bachelor's degree in quantitative subjects; a graduate degree is preferred, but not essential.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in the energy industry and demonstrated knowledge across a broad range of issues and trends within the oil and refining sector. A fundamental understanding of the Asia and/or Middle East downstream oil industry is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to examine data and information and use analytical tools to identify important strategic trends in the industry. Experience in writing succinct reports and presenting them to a professional energy audience is highly desirable.
  • Excellent Excel skills and proficiency with other MS applications required (Word and PowerPoint).
  • An excellent level of English, and both written and verbal presentation skills. Proficiency in other languages is a plus, notably Chinese, Korean, or Japanese
  • A strong desire to establish oneself as a thought leader in the field. An enthusiastic interest in Asia and the Middle East is preferred
  • A consummate team player and will be at ease in the fast pace of a research business, where timelines are varied, and deadlines are rigorous.
  • A self-starter, motivated to build new relationships and raise one's profile and that of the team amongst clients and peers.
  • Awareness of potential commercial opportunities and the ability to help both the client and internal colleagues in refining and qualifying those opportunities.
