OVERALL SUMMARY

This role is responsible for providing support to the Newbuilding department in Newbuilds, Conversion and Ship Repair matters related to Ships construction, Machinery and Vessel Performance. The Superintendent (Newbuilding) plays a pivotal role in overseeing the construction and timely delivery of new vessels.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Coordinate activities with all departments involved with the new ships during the development of their design and construction.
  • Responsible for Internal & External customer communication and to be involved in technical and commercial negotiations with builders and vendors.
  • Responsible for vendors audit management and risk assessments database maintenance.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely drawing revisions and approvals.
  • Coordinate technical discussions with initial design department.
  • Evaluate any requested specification changes/modifications with Shipyard and submit concerns to add or remove any requests in terms of cost, weight, and shipbuilding program.
  • Responsible for keeping track of cost changes and specification changes.
  • Responsible for management reports of shipyard design development, drawings review and construction progress reports.
  • Responsible for initial procedures development: FGSS manual, machinery manual, bunker management procedures.
  • Evaluate progress of projects and the production/construction stages, responsible for management reports, and responsible to maintain Project management documentation (Project Execution Plan, Safety Quality Manuals, Risk Registers, Safety Moments).
  • Coordinate ship delivery logistics with site manager and technical teams. Simultaneously ensure all relevant tests and inspections have been completed and prepare all delivery protocol documentation.
  • Provide support to technical/operations departments post-delivery and evaluate/channelize improvement ideas for equipment and systems.
  • Perform administrative tasks confirming delivery documentation is in line with all relevant rules, regulations, and requirements.
  • Due to accumulated experience and industry knowledge, the Superintendent (Newbuilding) may occasionally be required to assist technical teams in managing vessels in service, sales & purchase activities, dry docking attendance, repair, or vessel inspections.

QUALIFICATION / EXPERIENCE

  • BSc in Engineering - preferably Mechanical, Marine, Naval Architecture/Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • More than 2 years of industrial experience in ship production and/or ship operation.
  • Project management experience and work experience with a team on an industrial project.
  • Familiarity and understanding of shipbuilding process.
  • Knowledge and Familiarity with Class rules, regulations including relevant ASME, API codes.
  • Reporting capability to communicate to vendor, owner and shipyard.
  • Adequate technical knowledge in working with desktops/laptops including standard software.
