MSE at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Research Fellow to advance research in ammonia e-cracking for sustainable hydrogen production. This position requires expertise in computational modeling, machine learning, materials synthesis, and advanced characterization techniques to design and develop efficient catalysts and processes for ammonia decomposition. Aligned with NTU MSE's mission to conduct world-class research addressing critical global challenges in energy storage and environmental sustainability, the successful candidate will play a key role in driving high-impact research outcomes. This role offers opportunities to contribute to pioneering projects and produce influential publications, reinforcing NTU's leadership in transformative research and cutting-edge energy solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research to design and develop advanced electrode materials and catalytic systems for ammonia cracking, with a focus on efficient hydrogen production.
  • Utilize computational tools and machine learning techniques (Python, MATLAB) to simulate and optimize material properties, reaction pathways, and ammonia decomposition mechanisms.
  • Synthesize and characterize catalytic materials using advanced techniques, including XRD, Raman spectroscopy, TEM, and XAFS, to evaluate structural stability, activity, and long-term performance under ammonia cracking conditions.
  • Perform electrochemical testing to assess catalytic efficiency, hydrogen yield, and energy conversion performance, while developing optimized testing protocols.
  • Integrate experimental results with machine/deep learning models and theoretical insights to uncover and understand new reaction mechanisms for enhanced ammonia decomposition.
  • Publish research findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present at leading international conferences


Job Requirements:
  • PhD in Computational Chemistry, Catalysis, Energy Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Extensive expertise in Density Functional Theory (DFT) for material design and optimization.
  • Proficiency in computational tools and software, including VASP, Gaussian, CP2K, and DFTB+.
  • Experience with machine learning force fields and multi-scale simulations to model material behavior and reaction mechanisms.
  • Strong background in material synthesis, advanced characterization techniques (XRD, Raman spectroscopy, TEM, XAFS), and electrochemical testing methodologies.
  • Proven track record of high-impact publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, demonstrating significant contributions to materials science and electrocatalysis.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to integrate experimental findings and theoretical approaches to address complex research challenges.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management capabilities, ensuring the timely delivery of impactful research outcomes.
