Job Summary:
The Delivery Driver Supervisor manages and oversees a team of delivery drivers to ensure efficient operations, safety, and customer satisfaction. This role involves coordinating delivery routes, monitoring driver performance, ensuring compliance with safety and legal regulations, and troubleshooting any delivery issues. In cases of staffing shortages, the supervisor may also be required to step in and deliver goods directly to customers.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Supervision: Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of delivery drivers to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.
Route Management: Plan and optimize delivery routes for maximum efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Performance Monitoring: Track and evaluate driver performance, providing feedback and ensuring that key performance indicators (KPIs) are met.
Safety and Compliance: Ensure drivers adhere to safety standards, company policies, and legal regulations (such as traffic laws, vehicle maintenance, and delivery guidelines).
Problem Resolution: Handle and resolve issues that may arise during the delivery process, such as delays, vehicle breakdowns, or customer complaints.
Training: Provide ongoing training to drivers on best practices, company procedures, and customer service standards.
Inventory and Documentation: Monitor delivery logs, ensure accurate documentation for deliveries, and assist with inventory management when necessary.
Customer Service: Ensure drivers provide excellent customer service, addressing customer inquiries or issues when required.
Vehicle Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and repair schedules of delivery vehicles to ensure they remain in safe working condition.
Reporting: Prepare and submit regular reports on delivery performance, driver issues, and logistical challenges to upper management.
Hands-On Delivery: In the event of manpower shortages or emergencies, temporarily take on delivery duties to ensure goods are delivered to customers on time.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (some positions may require a bachelor's degree).
Proven experience in a logistics, transportation, or delivery environment, preferably with supervisory experience.
Strong leadership and communication skills.
Ability to effectively manage a team and resolve conflicts.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
Knowledge of local roads, traffic patterns, and delivery best practices.
Familiarity with safety regulations and compliance requirements for commercial drivers.
Proficiency in using route optimization software or delivery management systems (may vary by company).
Skills:
Class 4 driving license required
Leadership: Ability to lead and inspire a team of drivers.
Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively to ensure timely deliveries.
Customer Service: Strong interpersonal skills to maintain positive relationships with drivers and customers.
Technology: Proficiency in delivery tracking systems, GPS, and communication tools.
Problem-Solving: Quick thinking and resourceful to handle unexpected delivery issues.
Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing situations, including stepping in to perform deliveries when necessary.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
May require occasional lifting and physical activity, depending on the nature of the goods being delivered.
Ability to drive delivery vehicles, if needed.
