Roles & Responsibilities

A CNC (Computer Numerical Control) programmer designs and implements software code, typically using CAM software, to direct CNC machines to cut, drill, and shape materials into high-quality parts. They interpret 3D CAD blueprints, create efficient tool paths and programs, select appropriate tools, perform calculations, and may oversee machine operations and conduct simulations to ensure precision and productivity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Creation:Develop G-code or machine instructions using CAD/CAM software based on 3D models and blueprints.
  • Blueprint Analysis:Review and interpret technical drawings and 3D models to understand part geometry and specifications.
  • Process Planning:Determine the sequence of operations and select the correct cutting tools and parameters (like feed rates and spindle speeds) for optimal machining.
  • Calculations:Perform necessary mathematical calculations to ensure accurate material removal.
  • Simulation & Testing:Run simulations or test programs to verify the code and identify potential errors before production.
  • Troubleshooting:Address and resolve issues that arise during the machining process.
  • Collaboration:Communicate with engineers and other team members to refine designs and processes.
  • Custom Fixtures:Design custom jigs and fixtures as needed for specific manufacturing tasks.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Technical Skills:Proficiency in CAD/CAM software, knowledge of CNC machine operations (milling, turning), and G-code.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills:A detail-oriented mindset to create precise programs and solve technical issues.
  • Reading Comprehension:Strong ability to read and understand complex blueprints and technical documentation.
  • Soft Skills:Good communication skills to collaborate with teams.
