Duties andRepsonsibilitites

The primaryfunction of a Special Education Co-Teacher is to work with the LeadSpecial Education Teacher in developing, implementing andmonitoring the students' Individualized Education Program (IEP),following the school's curriculum framework and standards.

The Co-Teacher will communicate with the LeadTeacher on a regular, ongoing basis (i.e., before, during or afterschool hours) to discuss or address any issue when they arise, aswell as to discuss the curriculum and planning in regular teammeetings.

More specifically, the SpecialEducation Co-Teacher will assist and work with the Lead Teacher toimplement or achieve the following:

• Utilizinga common approach to behaviour management, time management,classroom organization and appearance, planning, teaching, andmonitoring learning

• Creating and administeringregular assessments including but not limited to observationrecording tools, checklists, quizzes, etc.

•Grouping students dynamically based on academic needs, as informedby assessment data

• Writing detailed lessonreflections, progress reports and annual reports to communicatestudents' progress to families

• Using classroomand behavioural management strategies that are structured,consistent, respectful and responsive to student needs

• Ensuring a safe physical and emotionalenvironment for students through positive framing, kindcommunication with students and adults, predictability andconsistent routines

• Attending staff meetingsor development sessions, and meeting (individually or with leadteacher) with the principal and assistant principal to monitorstudent progress, co-teaching and professionalgoals

• Building a rapport and communicatingwith families through daily logs/progress reports, phone calls andmeetings, as necessary

• Attending andparticipating in all parent-teacher conferences during the year

• Coordinating at least one school event,together with other staff.
