KeyJob Purposes:

The School of Mechanical andAerospace Engineering (MAE) is seeking to hire a Research Fellow tocarry out research on mechanics of collective behaviors of livingcells under various environmental stimulations. In particular, hewill look into the behaviors of contractile cells such as C2C12skeletal muscle cells, and determine how extracellular environmentwill affect the morphology of multi-cellular constructs. He/shewill collaborate with other Research Fellows, Research Associates,Project Officers, as well as students including Ph.D. and Master'sstudents, undergraduate students, visiting scholars and researchersin the group. The RF will be responsible for designing experimentalresearch on mechanics of plants and plant morphogenesis cause bymechanical stimuli including, but not limited to, plant leaf shapeformation/morphing, biomimetic structures/devices based on shapemorphing principles learned from plants. Furthermore, the PO willexplore potential applications of the research findings in variousfields including, but not limited to, soft robotics, morphing spacestructures, and sensors/actuators.

The RF mayalso involve in research proposal writing. The RF's roleencompasses research leadership, mentorship, and collaborationwithin a multidisciplinary research environment to address majorscientific challenges in plant mechanics andmorphogenesis.

KeyResponsibilities:
  • Research Leadership:Take research initiatives to explore new ideas and develop newmethods. Drive the research strategies, methodologies, andexperimental designs to advance knowledge in thisdomain.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with otherResearch Associates, Project Officers, and students including Ph.D.and Master's candidates, undergraduate students, visiting scholarsand researchers. Foster collaborations within the research groupand with other researchers outside thegroup.
  • Experimental and Modelling Research:Carry out both experimental and modelling researchactivities.
  • Key responsibility 4 ApplicationExploration: Explore the potential applications of the findings ofplant mechanics in morphing structuredesign.
  • Key responsibility 5 Publication andDissemination: Contribute to scholarly publications, researchpapers, and presentations at conferences. Disseminate researchfindings to the academic community and relevantindustries.
  • Key responsibility 6 StrategicCollaboration: Collaborate with external partners, industrystakeholders, and other institutions to foster partnerships thatenhance the impact of research outcomes and facilitate knowledgetransfer.

  • PhD degree in relevantfield (e.g., mechanical engineering, materialsscience)
