Roles & Responsibilities

The core purpose of a counsellor in the Division of Specialist Services is to provide professional support and intervention to individuals, couples and families facing mental health, grief and loss, personal, family and marital difficulties.

The main objectives are as follow but the list is non-exhaustive:

1) helping adult clients (18 years and above) to manage stress, anxiety, depression and other emotional/mental health concerns

2) supporting clients experiencing bereavement and non-death losses such as breakup/ separation/divorce

3) building clients' self awareness and efficacy

4) helping couples and families to improve communication, conflict management and strengthen their relational bonds with one another

5) facilitating clients during their problem-solving and decision-making process

6) creating safe therapeutic relationship with clients to achieve their goals for counselling

7) referring clients to other professionals/agencies for specialised services when necessary

Main Duties & Responsbilities:

To provide individual and dyadic counselling for individuals, couples and families.

To provide case assessment and intervention for counselling cases with low to moderate complexity.

To conduct counselling sessions during and after office hours. Evening sessions are on either Tuesday or Thursday. Evening sessions are normally once per week, unless there is urgent need for another evening in the week.

To participate in case presentation and discussions in the context of a multi-disciplinary team, and from a systemic perspective.

To conduct grief support group on monthly basis and psychoeducation trainings for adults when required.

To plan, organise and oversee training programme - plan training schedule and publicity, prepare refreshments and training resources, manage budget, communicate with trainers and evaulate training effectiveness.

Required Skills / Education / Work Experience:


• Master in Counselling from an accredited institution


• Registered Counsellor with the Singapore Association for Counselling


• Good communication and interpersonal skills


• At least 3 years of counselling experience in mental health, grief and loss, family and couple work


• Willing to travel to different centres (including Pioneer & Potong Pasir)


• Willing to conduct home visits and to work at least 1 weekday night
