Roles & Responsibilities

The Maintenance Support Central (MSC) is an initiative by the Singapore Council of Women's Organisations (SCWO). MSC aims to empower financially vulnerable individuals to understand their marital and maintenance rights and provides them with all-rounded support from our community partners.

MSC's Single Mother's Program (SMP) provides a structured support network, ensuring single mothers have access to essential resources, community connections and be empowered to reach their fullest potential.

Building a supportive community network is vital for single mothers. SMP fosters community engagement and provides social support that can significantly improve their overall well-being and resilience. In addition, when single mothers thrive, they will enable their children to do so too.

SMP comprises the following:

1) Single Mothers Support Group: To provide a support group for single mothers to come together to support one another during their difficult times.

2) Training: To provide training to participants who have attended support group to be co-facilitators and leaders to empower others.

3) Interest Groups: To foster a supportive community network to reduce isolation and build a sense of belonging.

We are looking for a Counsellor.

Empathetic Counsellor who has experience offering counselling services to survivors of abuse, trauma and relationship loss. Adept at establishing a trusting and therapeutic rapport with people, supporting them as they embark on their journey of healing and coping with challenges.

The Job:


•Organise and facilitate group work, group therapy, support group and interest groups for Single Mother's Programme.


•Provide professional counselling services and case management/clinical assessment, and crisis interventions with clients.


•Conduct training for single mothers who are keen to be co-facilitator, para-counsellors/befrienders, survivor leaders.


•Evaluate the effectiveness of counselling programs on clients' progress in resolving identified problems and moving towards defined objectives.


•Develop and implement treatment plans based on therapeutic experience and knowledge.


•Collaborate and network with Supervisor and other staff members as part of clients' treatment plans.


•Prepare and maintain client-related paperwork, including government-mandated forms, client diagnostic records, and progress notes for Supervisor.


•Manage meetings and case conferences


•Conduct talks and workshops for internal stakeholders, external partners and clients as part of outreach and education.


•Familiar with the community and institutional setting and network partnership with various stakeholders, community organizations in planning and implementation of the programme


•Perform the daily operations of SMP.


•Assist with other relevant duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Technical Competencies:


•Master's or Degree in Counselling


Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in counselling


•Effective leadership and possess team management skills


•Effectively bilingual and proficient in English both verbally and written


•Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills


•Self-motivated team player with a passion to serve.


•Singaporean and PR only

Core Competencies:


•Ability in attending to and engaging with people, assessment of needs, establishment of intervention plans, working with and linking with various community partners, planning and evaluation of programmes.

SCWO has more than 60 member organisations, representing over 600,000 women, and it serves to unite them to work toward the ideals of 'Equal Space, Equal Voice and Equal Worth' for women in Singapore.
