Roles & Responsibilities

Job Description & Requirements

The jobholder is responsible to provide personalised and cost-effective care to clients in the Senior Care Centre in accordance to established policies and procedures, standards of nursing care and practices.

  • Assesses, develops, implements and evaluates the nursing care of client.
  • Performs clinical assessments and procedures to detect, manage and meet client's physical, medical and psychosocial needs with respect to his/her autonomy and independence.
  • Carries out treatment and procedures prescribed for client according to expected standards of practice and guidelines.
  • Demonstrates and maintains good interpersonal skills with colleagues, clients and public.
  • Leads a team of nursing staff to give co-ordinated and purposeful care to meet the rehabilitative and treatment needs of clients assigned.
  • Guides and directs Enrolled Nurse level and below to ensure that quality nursing care is rendered to clients at all times.
  • Develops dementia behaviour management plans for clients.
  • Ensures proper diet management of clients, from the vendor to the client.
  • Provides training on the activities of daily living and health teaching to clients, their family members and the community.
  • Records informative, accurate and concise statements on the nursing care rendered and other matters pertaining to clients in the centre.
  • Assists other nursing staff during treatment and examination of the client.
  • Practises and promotes decontamination procedures and infection control measures based on current knowledge and standards.
  • Maintains a safe, clean and conducive environment for the clients and staff.
  • Exercises economy and care in the use of equipment and supplies.
  • Performs inventory management for nursing supplies used by the centre.
  • Follows nursing policies and procedural guidelines to ensure that work is being carried out appropriately.
  • Provides orientation, guidance, mentoring and coaching to new and less experienced staff.
  • Participates in orientation, guidance and mentoring to new staff and those with less experience to ensure delivery of quality care at all times.
  • Prepares work schedules and rosters of Enrolled Nurse level and below staff.
  • Participates in in-service teaching to the nursing and ancillary staff.
  • Attends continuing education/ in-services on a regular basis to maintain skill competency.
  • Participates in working committees as assigned.
  • Participates in discussions using evidence based nursing knowledge practices to change outdated practices and improve the delivery of client care.
  • Be a role model to other staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Centre Manager/Senior Staff Nurse.
