Cognita, in partnership with Brighton College, is seeking an inspirational Biology Teacher (Senior School) to start in August 2025. The Biology Teacher will lead all aspects of the Biology curriculum at Key Stage 3 and IGCSE, as Brighton College (Singapore) expands from a first-class Prep School to one of the region's leading all-through schools (from Pre-Nursery to Year 13).

This is an exciting opportunity for an educationalist to help shape the development of a secondary curriculum that will provide the platform needed for pupils to go on to some of the world's leading universities. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring that the educational offering aligns with the Brighton College commitment to building a world-class academic institution, distinctive in its own right, but with the Brighton College DNA at its core. They will be able to demonstrate the passion, expertise and ambition to take ownership of all aspects of the pupil experience of Biology teaching at secondary level.

The Biology Teacher will report to the Head of Science. They will be responsible for the pedagogical leadership of the Biology curriculum, and for ensuring that teaching excellence is embedded throughout all Key Stages. In August 2025, the Senior School at Brighton College (Singapore) will open with Years 7, 8, 9 and 10. The Biology Teacher will teach across Key Stage 3 and 4 Year Groups in both Biology (Year 9 and 10) and Science (Year 7 and 8) and will be expected to lead the Biology teaching and learning at IGCSE and beyond as the school expands upwards from August 2025. Therefore, they will be able to demonstrate a strong track record of delivering top academic results at GCSE/IGCSE and A-level in previous roles. The Biology Teacher will also be required to teach some Science at Key Stage 2.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on all aspects of Biology curriculum planning and delivery, in preparation for the first IGCSE Year 10 Triple Science cohort starting in August 2025, and for all other senior year groups in the following years.
  • Lead on all aspects of the Biology curriculum planning and delivery for Year 9.
  • Work collaboratively with the Head of Science to develop the curriculum planning for Science teaching in Year 7 and 8 (and some Key Stage 2 classes).
  • Take responsibility for the teaching, progress and attainment of all pupils in your classes.
  • Lead on all aspects of assessment, tracking and reporting for Biology.
  • Demonstrate the experience and ability to teach Biology across different Key Stages (including Key Stage 3, IGCSE/GCSE and A-level) and Science across Key Stage 3.
  • Act as an outstanding classroom practitioner, with the ability to lead by example.
  • Devise and implement rigorous self-evaluation processes.
  • Promote excellence, creativity and innovation in all areas of the Biology curriculum.
  • Devise and oversee the department's Biology extension and enrichment programme.
  • Develop the Biology curriculum and department documentation, both for current and prospective parents.
  • Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Demonstrate the experience and expertise needed to support pupils in future years with applications to leading universities, including Oxford and Cambridge and other world-class universities.
  • Ensure pupils have opportunities to prepare for, and participate in, Biology competitions, providing appropriate stretch and challenge.
  • Work closely with the Heads of EAL and AEN to develop pathways for pupils requiring additional support.
  • Contribute to the highest standards of safeguarding and to the school's pastoral system, acting as a tutor for a Senior School year group.
  • Contribute to the co-curricular life of the school.
  • Any other reasonable management request.

Position Requirements

  • Experienced practitioner with a proved track record of effective teaching, having obtained excellent public examination results in the British Curriculum, with the previous cohorts.
  • Proficient in using school databases, communications platforms, and educational technology.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication and professional collaboration skills.
  • Must demonstrate flexibility, strong work habits, and a positive attitude.
  • Strong organisational skills and excellent communication skills.
  • Evidence of passion and enthusiasm for the subject should be a given, but we will also look for evidence of the capacity to contribute to the broader life of the school.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology (or similar qualification) with PGCE or equivalent.
  • Expert knowledge or experience of successfully delivering Key Stage 3, GCSEs/IGCSEs and A-level.
  • International experience (preferred but not essential).
  • Exemplifies the Brighton College (Singapore) values of Curiosity, Confidence and Kindness.
  • An international outlook and understanding of working in diverse environments.

The job holder's responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young person's for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the relevant Cognita Safeguarding; Child Protection Policy and Procedures at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the role, the job holder identifies any instance that a child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm either at school or at home, s/he must report any concerns to the School's Designated Safeguarding Lead or to the Head of School or indeed to the Regional CEO or Safeguarding Manager - Asia so that a referral can be made accordingly to the statutory services.
