Roles & Responsibilities

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator (PostgreSQL/Sybase – L2) to join our Database team. The role involves managing, administering, and supporting PostgreSQL and Sybase database technologies within a large financial services environment.

The selected candidate will serve as a Level 2 technical expert and escalation point, ensuring database stability, performance, and compliance with organizational standards.

This position is based in Singapore and aligned primarily to Paris/EMEA working hours, with flexible rotations and on-call requirements.

Mandatory Skill-set

• 6–8 years of PostgreSQL/Sybase DBA experience in enterprise production environments;
• Strong experience in administration, configuration, upgrades, and patching of PostgreSQL & Sybase;
• Proven knowledge of High Availability (HA) & Disaster Recovery (DR) setups;
• Hands-on experience in performance tuning, query optimization, and index management;
• Experience in incident, problem, and change management (ITIL framework);
• Ability to monitor database health and troubleshoot issues using tools like pg_stat_statements, sp_who, sp_lock;
• Strong SQL scripting for backup, recovery, and database automation;
• Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills;
• Willingness to work in Paris/EMEA shift schedules and on-call rotations;
• Bachelor's/Master's in Computer Science, IT, or related field;

Desired Skill-set

• Experience in financial services industry;
• Familiarity with database security policies, encryption, and access controls;
• Scripting knowledge in Python, Shell, T-SQL for automation;
• Exposure to DevOps/CI-CD pipelines and application release processes;
• Experience with monitoring & visualization tools (Prometheus, Grafana, pgBadger);
• Involvement in migration projects between Sybase and PostgreSQL;
• Cloud certification (AWS, Azure);
• PostgreSQL/Sybase certifications – highly preferred;

Responsibilities

PostgreSQL Administration:

• Install, configure, and upgrade PostgreSQL clusters;
• Architect secure and scalable database infrastructure, including HA/DR solutions (streaming replication, Patroni, pgpool-II);
• Monitor and optimize database performance (pg_stat_statements, Prometheus, Grafana, pgBadger);
• Perform advanced tuning, indexing, and SQL query analysis;
• Automate maintenance (vacuum, reindex, analyze, backup, log management);
• Develop robust backup and recovery strategies (pg_dump, pg_basebackup, third-party tools);
• Collaborate with developers, DevOps, and QA on schema design, CI/CD, and releases;
• Implement security best practices (RBAC, encryption);
• Automate routine tasks using Shell/Python scripting;

Sybase Administration:

• Manage Sybase ASE/IQ installations, configurations, upgrades, and patching;
• Perform query optimization, locking analysis, and index management;
• Handle backups, replication, DR strategies, and space/log management.;
• Monitor databases (sp_who, sp_lock, custom scripts);
• Support Sybase job scheduling (autosys/cron);
• Participate in migration projects and hybrid PostgreSQL-Sybase environments;

Operational & Team Responsibilities:

• Act as highest level of escalation (Incident/Problem/Change management);
• Own technical scope changes and ensure compliance with standards;
• Participate in DR tests, infra events, and global initiatives;
• Lead continuous improvement and automation efforts;
• Maintain accurate documentation and knowledge sharing;
• Assist in root cause analysis for high-severity incidents.
