Roles & Responsibilities

Job Purpose

The Tooling Engineer will play a key role in supporting tooling operations, ensuring tool readiness for production, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This position involves providing technical support to toolmakers, production, design, and sales teams to meet quality, technical, and customer requirements. The role also includes leading problem-solving activities, training toolmakers, and supporting management in achieving departmental objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with toolmakers to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
  • Provide technical tooling support to Tooling & Development (T&D) and production teams to meet technical and quality standards.
  • Support tool design and sales teams in fulfilling customer requirements.
  • Assist the tooling supervisor in ensuring tool readiness to support production schedules.
  • Coordinate with production and planning teams to prioritize schedules based on tooling status.
  • Liaise with the Design department to drive tool improvements for greater efficiency and output.
  • Lead the tooling team in problem-solving, including issue identification, root cause analysis, and resolution.
  • Drive and support continuous improvements in tooling processes and workflows.
  • Work closely with the toolroom to address machining needs for tooling modifications and improvement programs.
  • Assist in managing the tooling team to ensure efficient allocation of resources and alignment with departmental needs.
  • Train, guide, and mentor toolmakers to develop technical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Act on behalf of the Principal Engineer in his/her absence.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the superior and/or management.
Requirements
  • Diploma/Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering or related discipline.
  • Relevant years of experience in tooling, tool design, or toolmaking (preferably in a manufacturing environment).
  • Strong knowledge of tooling processes, machining, and tool maintenance.
  • Hands-on problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Experience in leading or mentoring a team of toolmakers.
  • Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional departments (Production, Planning, Design, Sales).
  • Proficiency in CAD software and tool design applications will be an advantage.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
