Roles & Responsibilities

Purpose of the position

The Centre Leader / Principal is responsible for planning and executing the educational programme in accordance with the purpose and goals. The Centre Leader / Principal is responsible for the general supervision and management of the children, teaching staff and other non-teaching staff.

Key responsibilities and duties include:

  • Planning, supervising, and implementing the programme for the school in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the school
  • Carrying out all SOPs accurately and diligently.
  • Working with government agencies to attain accreditation and awards.
  • Planning financial expenses of events etc.
  • Supervising / training and working with the Senior Educator, Educators, Assistant Educators, Administrator, Cleaner and Cook on productivity.
  • Supervising and promoting activities designed to enhance the healthy emotional, social, intellectual, creative and physical development of each child.
  • Ensure children establish good personal hygiene habits.
  • Supervising all activities to ensure safety is maintained at all times.
  • Supervising the upkeep of all educational equipment and materials in assigned areas.
  • Preparing daily timetables for the different class levels.
  • Planning work hours of all staff.
  • Participating in recommended training programmes, conferences, courses, and other aspects of professional growth, maintaining current knowledge of early childhood practices.
  • Contributing to the Staff In-Service Training Programme by planning, leading, or assisting in a workshop presentation or by developing resources.
  • Maintaining progress records of each child's growth and development, prepare periodic reports, and review with the Director and parents.
  • Sitting in on Parent-Teacher Meetings for new educators on the job / selected children.
  • Working with parents to promote understanding of their child's growth and development; encouraging parent participation in childcare programmes.
  • Planning and implementing methods to establish a positive connection with parents.
  • Communicating frequently with parents through periodic notes and verbal communication, as well as frequent updates on social media sites.
  • Promoting enrolment numbers to reach maximum capacity.
  • Keeping staff attrition rate low.
  • Maintaining a professional attitude and loyalty at all times.

Minimum requirements:

  • 5 GCE 'O' Levels passes including Grade B4 and above for English; and
  • Diploma in Early Childhood Preschool Leadership with 2 years' experience in related fields.

Work experience & Skills:

  • The Centre Leader / Principal should have some supervisory experience and should possess strong communication and human relations skills.
  • The Centre Leader / Principal must be able to work well with all staff and families of children.
  • The Centre Leader / Principal should be a sensitive, mature individual who relates well to children and adults.
