Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) is looking for acandidate to join them as a Research Assistant/ Research Associate/Research Fellow.

The Climate TransformationProgramme (CTP) aims to develop, inspire and accelerateknowledge-based solutions and educate future leaders to establishthe stable climate and environment necessary for resilient, just,and sustainable Southeast Asian societies.

CTPwill generate knowledge and innovation across disciplines includingclimate and Earth science, ecology, materials science, artificialintelligence, humanities, social sciences and the arts, finance,health, and engineering. It will also translate state-of-the-artscientific results into real world solutions for Singapore, and itwill transfer these solutions to Southeast Asia (SEA) andbeyond.

The research plan of CTP consists of sixstrategic and interlinked researchclusters:

Cluster 1: Climate processesand extremes
This cluster will address keyknowledge gaps in the understanding and modelling of the physicalprocesses and impacts of climate change, with specific focus onSingapore and the equatorial SEA region.
Led by Prof. AdamSwitzer, Asst. Prof. Edward Park, Assoc. Prof. Xianfeng Wang,Assoc. Prof. Winston Chow and Asst. Prof. JingyuWang.

Cluster 2: Climate andbiodiversity
This cluster will assess climatechange effects on biodiversity and carbon sequestration in SEAtropical forests and human-modified landscapes.
Led byAsst. Prof. Eleanor Slade, Assoc Prof. Ryan Chisholm, and Asst.Prof. Kim Hie Lim.

Cluster 3: Climatemitigation
This cluster will develop mineral andvegetation-based carbon dioxide removal.
Led by Prof.Simon Redfern, and Asst. Prof. Janice Ser HuayLee.

Cluster 4: Novel engineeringsolutions for climate impacts
This cluster willexplore engineering solutions to adapt to sea-level rise andclimate-constrained water resources.
Led by Prof. ChuJian, Asst. Prof. Perrine Hamel, and Assoc. Prof. QinXiaosheng.

Cluster 5. Climate andfinance markets
This cluster will measure andprice climate risk in financial markets, design innovative riskfinancing solutions to climate change, and quantify economic impactof climate policies.
Led by Prof. Xin Chang, Asst. Prof.Weikai Li, and Assoc. Prof. WenjunZhu.

Cluster 6. Climate and humanhealth
This cluster will predict the futureimpacts of climate change on human health.
Led by Assoc.Prof. Steve Yim, Assoc. Prof. Konstandina Griva, Assoc. Prof. AlexCook, and Prof. Joseph Sung.

Three cross-cuttingthemes will be key enablers to integrate the individual strategicclusters:

Cross Cutting Theme 1:Sustainable societies
This theme will leverageclimate research in communication, public opinion and psychology,and artistic impressions to shape public attitudes andbehaviours.

Cross Cutting Theme 2: Satelliteremote sensing
This theme will map and monitorthe impact and solutions of climate change in SEA.
Led byAssoc. Prof. Sang-Ho Yun, and Prof. ErickLansard.

Cross Cutting Theme 3:Artificial intelligence
This theme will betterunderstand climate processes, impacts and prepare for a resilientfuture through Machine Learning and AI.
Led by Prof. WeisiLin, and Prof. Bo An.

KeyResponsibilities:
  • Manage,analyse, and interpret complex datasets, employing the latestmethodologies and tools for accurate and efficient dataprocessing.
  • Engage in close collaboration withexperts across diverse disciplines, integrating various datasets toenhance the understanding on climatetransformation.
  • Develop key case studies thatcan inform and support policy decisions, emphasizing practicalapplications of research findings in risk management and mitigationstrategies.
  • Prepare research outputs in formatsaccessible to policymakers, risk stakeholders, and the broadercommunity, ensuring clear and effective communication of complexscientific information.
  • Present, publish, andcommunicate research results in scientific meetings, scholarlyjournals, and other relevant platforms, contributing to the broaderscientific discourse.
  • Provide guidance andsupport to junior team members, students, and research assistants,fostering an environment of learning and professionalgrowth.


JobRequirements:
  • B.Sc. (forResearch Assistant position)/M.Sc. (for Research Associateposition)/Ph.D. (for Research Fellow position) in Earth Sciences oranother relatedfield.
  • Post-bachelor/post-doctoral experienceis an advantage.
  • Track record of publishingresearch relevant to the position in international recognisedjournals.
  • Evidence of excellent communicationskills.
  • Evidence of independence in researchdirection and teamspirit.
