Roles & Responsibilities

Business Development Manager Responsibilities:
  • Developing a business development strategy focused on financial gain
  • Arranging business development meetings with prospective clients
  • Develop a growth strategy focused both on financial gain and customer satisfaction
  • Conduct research to identify new markets and customer needs
  • Arrange business meetings with prospective clients
  • Promote the company's products/services addressing or predicting clients' objectives
  • Prepare sales contracts ensuring adherence to law-established rules and guidelines
  • Keep records of sales, revenue, invoices etc.
  • Provide trustworthy feedback and after-sales support
  • Build long-term relationships with new and existing customers
  • Develop entry level staff into valuable salespeople
Requirements and skills
  • Proven working experience as a business development manager, sales executive or a relevant role
  • Proven sales track record
  • Experience in customer support is a plus
  • Proficiency in MS Office and CRM software (e.g. Salesforce)
  • Proficiency in English
  • Market knowledge
  • Communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to build rapport
  • Time management and planning skills

To implement the Food Matters strategy. o Support existing food and drink business located on the Island o Encourage new businesses and inward investment o Develop new markets and increase penetration of existing markets both locally and off-Island.  Have input to the development of the Departments business/service delivery plan which contributes towards Government's wider objectives for Economic Progress having specific regard to the 'Food Matters' strategy.

Participate within the team to ensure efficient and effective delivery of DED and DEFA business objectives, with particular regard to the 'Food Matters' strategy.  Work within the team to help create a motivated and effective working environment.  To work and collaborate effectively with the food and drink industry and regulators to ensure buy-in to the 'Food Matters' strategy and maximise its effectiveness

Participate in marketing activities which are consistent with the Food Matters strategy contributing areas of expertise and providing support where applicable.  Take a lead role in representing and promoting the Isle of Man overseas by actively seeking opportunities to address food and drink events and conferences and involving participation with local industry, where appropriate.  Develop relationships with retailers and wholesalers to influence procurement of Isle of Man produce.

Manage the Isle of Man's role in events relevant to the business objectives of the Food Matters strategy, on occasions with representatives from industry.  Contribute to developing or opening of new markets using industry knowledge and expertise / linkages.
