Roles & Responsibilities

Job Description

  • Conduct comprehensive interviews to evaluate hereditary cancer risk by analysing patterns of cancer diagnoses within a family.
  • Review medical records and family history to determine a patient's likelihood of developing certain cancers based on genetic factors.
  • Discuss the advantages and limitations of genetic testing for cancer susceptibility, treatment options and family planning decisions.
  • Explain complex genetic test findings to patients, outlining their personal cancer risk and potential implications for family members
  • Offer counselling to help patients and their families manage the emotional challenges associated with genetic diagnoses and cancer risk.
  • Work alongside oncologist and other healthcare staff to incorporate genetic insights into patient care and facilitate access to genetic testing.

Job Requirements

  • Masters in Genetic Counselling or equivalent
  • Counselling Experience
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
