Come Join Us
EcoCaraga is a nature-based carbon project development company headquartered in Singapore. It originates, designs, and develops nature-based carbon projects across Southeast Asia that mitigate climate change through the protection of tropical forest landscapes, and the removal of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere through the restoration of forest and other natural ecosystems, while ensuring full compliance with social and environmental safeguards. EcoCaraga aims toachieve these goals through global carbon and climate markets, thus bringing value back to maintain the natural ecosystems, biodiversity, and local communities that are stakeholders in our projects. EcoCaraga draws on a talented and multidisciplinary team of experts to deliver a comprehensive approach to project design and development, resulting in high-quality and high-integrity projects brought to the market. Using market-based solutions to conservation in Southeast Asia, we work to leverage natural capital as a viable opportunity for local economic development, while helping companies meet their climate targets through nature-based carbon offsets.
Position OverviewThe Social Impact Lead is at the heart of every project developed by EcoCaraga. The Social Impact Lead is a core member of our technical development team in Singapore, traveling regularly to our project sites in Southeast Asia, and other locations as necessary to meet and work with our local in-country implementing teams and project stakeholders, and is directly involved in the design and development of our projects. Guided always by the requirements of Verra’s Climate, Community and Biodiversity Standards (CCB; https://verra.org/programs/ccbs/) as well as Verra’s Sustainable Development Verified Impact Standard (SD VISta; https://verra.org/programs/sd-verified-impact-standard/), the Lead works collaboratively together with the Technical Team to guide the design and shape of our projects, how they create lasting social impact while mitigating risks of adverse impacts. The Lead will work directly with our Chief Technical Officer, with our in-country implementing teams, and on the ground in the villages across the region.
Position ResponsibilitiesLeadership
· Provide leadership within the core technical development team in terms of the main guiding principles and requirements of the CCB Standards and support the team on relevant items related to the SD VISta Standard, particularly through the use and application of the social and biodiversity impact assessment tool kits.
· Work within the core technical development team to help design and shape project activities, ensuring that risk management measures have been put in place and duly considered.
· Ensure that all EcoCaraga projects are set to achieve CCB Triple Gold rating, reaching the highest possible standards for environmental and social integrity.
· Work with our local country-office teams to strengthen understanding, train, prepare, and build capacity to put appropriate safeguards in place and monitor them.
· Undertake research and review of projects around the world, ensuring that best practices are learned and integrated into our projects.
Project Design Oversight
· Provide training, direction, and advisory support to Singapore technical development staff, local country teams, and project partners to ensure an understanding of requirements, frameworks, and trainings for social impact workshops, monitoring, and data collection.
· Guide, structure, and plan Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) processes for communities in and around our project sites and coordinate with local country teams accordingly to lead the implementation of the process.
· Lead quality assessment and control of projects against high-integrity standards by developing quality assurance and control procedures and ensuring their implementation.
· Put in place the monitoring systems required to assess the social impacts of proposed nature-based solutions projects, propose mitigation approaches where potential negative impacts are identified, and look to maximize positive and multiplicative impacts.
Eligibility Requirements· Master’s degree or PhD or a minimum of 7 years of experience in social sciences, climate change, working on social safeguards in the land use sector or a related field.
· Experience in the development of AFOLU projects and/or programs in the voluntary and/or compliance markets using the Verra Standards is considered a distinct advantage.
· Experience in conducting social surveys, data collection in rural areas, and working in remote locations.
· Strong demonstrable skills working in both qualitative and quantitative analysis.
· Experience working in a developing country context with local communities, villages, and/or indigenous populations is necessary.
· Excellent communication and cross-cultural skills, with the ability to foster relationships and engage with diverse stakeholders.
· Excellent command of the English language; fluency in Tagalog, Cebuano, Bahasa Indonesia, and/or Thai is considered an asset.
· Ability and willingness to travel regionally around Southeast Asia.
What We Bring to You· A uniquely on-the ground experience where you will be working on real-world projects in remote locations with indigenous peoples and local communities around the region.
· A multidisciplinary, multicultural, and deeply dedicated and energetic team in nature-based carbon project development.
· Full health insurance coverage.
· Collective team-based performance-based bonuses.
Work ConditionThe candidate will primarily be based out of the EcoCaraga Singapore office, with regular travel to project sites within the region as required.
