What the role is
The Pathway Manager (PWM) has a critical role within Fencing Singapore (FS) and is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive athlete pathway programme. This programme will identify, nurture, and develop talented fencers from grassroots to elite levels, ensuring a sustainable pipeline of athletes capable of achieving international success.
In addition, the PWM will assist the General Manager (GM) in coordinating coaching, refereeing and technical official development through education and certification initiatives.
What you will be working onKey Responsibilities:1. Pathway Development and Implementation
a. Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of FS National Pathways across all weapons, genders, age groups, and participation* levels.
b. Develop a structured athlete pathway, outlining stages of development, key milestones, and transition criteria.
c. Collaborate with clubs, schools, and coaches to integrate pathway programmes into existing structures, ensuring cohesive support for participants, athletes, and officials at all stages.
d. Support the High performance team in designing and implementing talent identification initiatives.
[*participation levels include but not limited to fencers, coaches, referees, competition organisers (DT) and armourers.]
2. Collaboration and Partnership
a. Manage the engagement, development, and integration of key stakeholders (e.g., clubs, schools, coaches, high-performance managers, and business owners, SSI, NYSI) within the FS National Pathways, ensuring seamless support during their integration.
b. Build and maintain relationships with new and existing partners by identifying opportunities for collaboration, maintaining regular communication, and implementing projects to advance the sport.
3. Event Planning and Publicity
a. Assist in planning and executing local and international events within the FS management structure.
b. Coordinate with teams and officials to ensure awareness and alignment with publicity plans.
c. Meet all publicity deadlines and oversee event execution to ensure plans run smoothly.
d. Work with the GM, in collaboration with the Coaching and Referees subcommittees/commission, to support the development pathways for coaches, referees and technical officials by delivering education curricula and certification through targeted courses and workshops.
e. Organise activities for various age and participation groups as part of the National Pathways guidance, education and knowledge transfer.
4. Programme and Coach Development
a. Oversee the implementation of developmental programmes and platforms, including training camps, competitions, and workshops.
b. Manage programme budgets, allocate resources effectively, and ensure alignment with long-term objectives.
c. Develop and deliver coach education programmes on talent development and long-term athlete growth principles.
d. Support and guide coaches involved in the pathway programmes and facilitate knowledge-sharing among coaches at all levels.
5. Performance Monitoring and Evaluation
a. Monitor the progress of coaches and officials within the pathway programmes using performance metrics and data analysis.
b. Evaluate the effectiveness of programmes, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
c. Provide regular reports to stakeholders on programme performance, making data-driven recommendations for adjustments as needed.

In addition, an ideal candidate should possess the following:
· Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Sports Science, Sports Management, Physical Education, Coaching, or a related field.
· Minimum 4 years of relevant experience[An1] and a proven track record in high performance sports or performance pathways, ideally within fencing or an Olympic sport of similar nature.
· Experience in managing sports-related events and workshops will be an advantage.
· A thorough understanding of elite fencers’ developmental pathways, especially concerning talent development and Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) knowledge.
· Excellent leadership, communication (written and spoken English) and interpersonal skills.
· Excellent administrative skills, including mastery of spreadsheets and working with datasets and other relevant tools to streamline operational processes.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to deconstruct complex matters into easy-to-understand content for varying stakeholders and working knowledge of project management concepts, tools, and techniques.
· Initiative and drive to develop, own, and plan around projects which push the department’s objective forward.
· Ability to work effectively in a team environment and under pressure.
· High level of computer literacy, particularly in sports-related and management software[An2] and hardware.
· Passion for sport and commitment to and fostering excellence and a sustainable fencing ecosystem across all participation levels.
Additional Attributes:· Demonstrate a good understanding of sports medicine and sports science knowledge/resources for the coaching and/or development of national fencers.
· Understanding of clean sport principles and anti-doping regulations, including their implementation to promote fairness and integrity in sport.
· Adaptable to a dynamic environment and schedule with occasional requirements to work outside of standard business hours.
