The job scope for an Inter-Generation Activities Coordinator typically involves facilitating and managing programs and activities that foster interaction and collaboration between different age groups, particularly older adults and younger generations. This role focuses on building mutual understanding, shared experiences, and community cohesion across age groups. Here’s a detailed overview of the potential responsibilities:


1. Program Development and Planning

  • Design and implement inter-generational programs, workshops, and events that encourage engagement between children, teenagers, adults, and seniors.
  • Develop activities that focus on shared learning, cultural exchange, storytelling, arts, and recreational activities.
  • Collaborate with schools, community centers, retirement homes, and other organizations to create opportunities for cross-generational interaction.
  • Ensure that programs are inclusive, accessible, and culturally sensitive.

2. Community Outreach and Engagement

  • Build relationships with local schools, senior centres, and community organizations to recruit participants.
  • Engage with families, youth groups, and elder care networks to promote awareness and participation in inter-generational activities.
  • Act as a liaison between different community members to ensure clear communication and participation across generations.
  • Advocate for the importance of inter-generational interactions and the benefits they bring to communities.
  • Promote inter-generational activities through social media, local press, and local community newsletters.
  • Organize campaigns or initiatives to increase awareness of age-related issues and the need for stronger connections across generations.

3. Volunteer Coordination and Training

  • Recruit and train volunteers, including both younger and older individuals, to support inter-generational activities.
  • Develop training materials and sessions that prepare volunteers to work effectively with different age groups.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to volunteers during events and programs.

4. Event Coordination and Management

  • Oversee the logistics of events and activities, including venue booking, material preparation, and transportation arrangements if needed.
  • Ensure all activities run smoothly, with attention to the safety, comfort, and enjoyment of participants of all ages.
  • Work closely with centre manager to ensure that inter-generational programs also cater to the emotional, mental, and physical well-being of participants.
  • Tailor activities to accommodate the specific needs of older adults, such as cognitive challenges or physical limitations.
  • Gather feedback from participants to evaluate and improve future programs.

5. Inter-generational Relationship Building

  • Facilitate meaningful connections between participants, encouraging shared storytelling, mentorship, and skill-sharing.
  • Address and manage any challenges or conflicts that may arise between different age groups.
  • Foster an environment of mutual respect, learning, and enjoyment.

6. Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Track the success of activities and programs through participant feedback, attendance, and engagement metrics (as required).
  • Report on the impact of inter-generational programs, including any social, emotional, or educational benefits observed.
  • Identify areas for program improvement based on evaluations and community needs.
